God’s Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE)

A very good friend sent me this story. It made me smile, so I thought it was worth sharing (thanks Mike):

Well, you might have thought that you knew how the Internet started, but here’s the TRUE story ….
In ancient Israel , it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot.
And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com.
And she said unto Abraham, her husband: “Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?”
And Abraham did look at her – as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said: “How, dear?”
And Dot replied: “I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price.
And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah’s Pony Stable (UPS).”
Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent.
To prevent neighbouring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was called Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures – Hebrew To The People (HTTP)
But this success did arouse envy. A man named Maccabia did secrete himself inside Abraham’s drum and began to siphon off some of Abraham’s business. But he was soon discovered, arrested and prosecuted – for insider trading.
And the young men did take to Dot Com’s trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung.
They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS.
And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land.
And indeed did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates’ drumheads and drumsticks.
And Dot did say: “Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others.”
And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel , or eBay as it came to be known. He said: “We need a name that reflects what we are.”
And Dot replied: “Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators.” “YAHOO,” said Abraham. And because it was Dot’s idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com.
Abraham’s cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot’s drums to locate things around the countryside. It soon became known as God’s Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE)

 

Apparently that’s a true story…

Seesmic Improvement on Iphone vs Tweetcaster

According to the Seesmic blog http://blog.seesmic.com/2011/01/seesmic-for-iphone-improvements.html they have made a few improvement to their Iphone App. Not being an Iphone user I suppose I am not that qualified to comment too much. However I do have an android phone and there is a Seesmic Android App. I used this for a short period of time but found it really frustrating, and memory hungry, to say the least. I decided I need a change.

On my android phone I use Tweetcaster http://www.handmark.com/applications/tweetcaster/

This program is absolutely brilliant. It has widgets on the home screen, so I can keep an eye on all of my twitter accounts, and I can update facebook and facebook pages on the go.

When I bought my Android – Desire – I was really finding the choice difficult between the iphone and the desire. I spent ages debating with myself, and eventually went with the Desire. At first I was regretting my decision as the battery life was dreadful, but this improved the more I used it. With apps like Tweetcaster I am also glad I did…

HOW TO: Use Social Media to Create Better Customer Experiences

As Social Media continues to explode companies are going to have to jump on board. I have had several experiences of late with companies that are not using Social Media. Not only is this frustrating but when you email their customer services team no response is forthcoming. I read a great article about using Social Media to ensure customers get a better experience.

It is very clear that huge amounts of companies customers are using Social Media, and if they don’t start engaging and taking care of their online presence, they are going to suffer. I appreciate fully that this is a big job, and requires someone ensuring things are done on a regular basis and followed up, but the investment (which may not be as much as you think) will be well worth it in the end.

Moshe was sitting at the bar staring at his drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to him, grabs his drink and gulps it down in one swig and menacingly says,
“Thanks Jew Boy, whatcha going to do about it?”
Moshe burst into tears.
“Come on, man,” the biker says, “I didn’t think you’d CRY. I can’t stand to see a man crying. What’s your problem?”
“This is the worst day of my life,” Moshe says.
“I’m a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me.
When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don’t have any insurance.
I left my wallet in the cab I took home.
I found my wife in bed with the postman and then my dog bit me.
So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all.
I buy a drink; drop a capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve; then you show up and drink the whole thing!
